Longtime local radio host AJ Machado and his co-host Sara Perry exit the morning show at Classic Hits KXSN-FM (Sunny 98.1)/San Diego after joining the Classic Hits outlet in 2018. The duo joined Sunny from crosstown heritage AC KYXY-FM. Before that, Machado hosted "The AJ Show" for five years on KEGY-FM (Energy 103.7). In 2012, Machado was recognized as "San Diego's Celebrity Philanthropist of the Year" by the SD Philanthropy Society.

Perry was previously the midday personality on crosstown KFMB-FM where she began her radio career as an intern with the station 17 years ago.

"Well, radio is a savage business and today it was my turn," Machado wrote on Wednesday. "I don't know who will be waking people up on Sunny 98.1 in the future but it won't be my morning team."

In a statement on Facebook, Perry wrote, "I'm no longer on the air at Sunny 98.1. We're all a bit shocked and of course, a lot bummed and we'll miss interacting with our awesome listeners, thank you all for waking up with us every morning."
