RADIO ONLINE | Thursday, November 3, 2022 |
WIOD (NewsRadio 610 AM)/Miami names Andrew Colton as morning host from 6-10am, effective Monday, January 9. Colton will succeed long time South Florida morning personality and Miami Dolphins play-by-play announcer Jimmy Cefalo, who will continue to provide commentary on WIOD. Colton will be joined by veteran news anchor Nathalie Rodriguez, William Althoff with more news and sports, Doug Lindsay with traffic and the Weather Channel's Ray Stagich.
"We are pleased to introduce Andrew Colton as the new host of WIOD's predominant live and local morning drive information program," said iHeartMedia Miami-Fort Lauderdale Market President Shari Gonzalez. "With Andrew's journalism expertise and deep connections to South Florida, he is a worthy broadcaster to step into this role. Jimmy Cefalo is a true South Florida broadcasting legend. We thank Jimmy for a wonderful 14 years and are thrilled he will remain a commentator on NewsRadio 610 WIOD."
"Jimmy and Andrew both share a passion for news, information, commonsense, and our South Florida lifestyle," added Vice-President of News and AM Programming Florida Region and iHeartMedia NTS Brand Coordinator Grace Blazer. "We are excited and fortunate to have Andrew Colton continue WIOD's spoken-word tradition and digital expansion."
Colton joins iHeartMedia Miami from Colton Legal Media Worldwide where he served as CEO and North America's premier litigation media expert. He stepped away from broadcasting to help trauma victims better communicate their stories and situations for legal proceedings worldwide. Colton was previously a national correspondent for ABC News, CBS Newspath and hosted the syndicated "Wall Street Journal This Morning."
"South Florida is a hotbed news, information, and influence in the nation and the world," continued Colton. "We've recently welcomed huge numbers of transplants from the Northeast, Midwest, and other countries who have always relied on radio as a vital information source. WIOD is that source here, and I encourage anyone who wants to know what everyone is talking about to join us weekday mornings from 6-10am"
"It has been a great pleasure to sit at the helm of South Florida's First News and touch South Floridians for well over a decade," said Cefalo. "With my current health challenges, this is a good time for me to take-on more regular hours and focus on the Miami Dolphins and my commentary on WIOD. I wish Andrew Colton and our entire WIOD team much continued success."
