KIRO-FM in Seattle has announced a transition in its programming lineup as Charlie Harger steps in as the new host of "Seattle's Morning News," succeeding Dave Ross, who retires after a 47-year tenure. Harger, a seasoned journalist and a native of the Seattle area, brings a deep-rooted passion and extensive experience to his new role at the station.

Harger's journey in radio journalism began in 1996 at Green River College's KGRG before moving to a significant stint at KOMO Newsradio. His return to KIRO Newsradio in 2021 as News Director marked a full circle, having grown up listening to the station since his days at Wedgwood Elementary. Over his career, Harger has been recognized for his exceptional reporting, including international attention for his investigative work on Boeing's aircraft safety and exclusive interviews with notorious figures such as the Green River Killer, Gary Ridgway.

Harger is also known for his engaging community service. Notably, his "Driver to Driver" and "Neighbor to Neighbor" segments during severe weather events showcased his commitment to the community, providing much-needed information and support during crises. This blend of professional excellence and community dedication has earned him multiple journalism awards, including the APTRA Major Market "Radio Reporter of the Year."

Harger acknowledges he has big shoes he has to fill. "Honestly, no one can fill Dave Ross's shoes. He's a legend, and I'm just honored to be stepping into this role after him," said Harger. His goal is clear: to ensure that listeners start their day well-informed and connected, whether through breaking news or heartwarming stories.
