After 33 years waking up listeners in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Dave Ryan has announced his retirement from mornings at iHeartMedia's 101.3 KDWB. Ryan's final broadcast of "The Dave Ryan in the Morning Show" is scheduled for May 22, ending one of the longest-running morning shows in the Twin Cities market.
Known for his conversational style and mix of humor and personal storytelling, Ryan became a staple of morning radio in the region over more than three decades at KDWB. Company executives credited him with helping shape the station's identity and building a strong connection with generations of listeners.
"Dave Ryan is a Twin Cities institution and one of the best to ever do it," said Rich Davis, Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Minneapolis. "He connected with listeners in a way that can't be manufactured."
Ryan reflected on his 46-year radio career, including 33 years at KDWB, saying the relationship with listeners was the most rewarding part of the job. "All I can say is 'Wow!'" Ryan said. "Being a part of your morning and being welcomed into your life has meant more to me than I can ever express."
KDWB plans to celebrate Ryan's career with special programming, listener tributes, and on-air retrospectives leading up to his final show. Although retiring from mornings, Ryan will remain involved with the station in an ambassador role. The station said details about its future morning lineup will be announced later.
