Ben Philpott Named Morning Edition Host at KUT

KUT News has named veteran journalist Ben Philpott as the new local host of NPR's "Morning Edition," beginning in September on KUT-FM (90.5) in Austin. Philpott, currently Managing Editor of KUT News, was among the first reporters hired when the newsroom was established in 2002. He served as KUT News' first political reporter, covering eight sessions of the Texas Legislature and followied former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz on the presidential campaign trail.

During his tenure, Philpott has received numerous journalism honors, including Journalist of the Year from the Houston Press Club. Before joining KUT News, he worked in television news and at public radio outlet WBHM-FM in Birmingham.

Philpott succeeds longtime "Morning Edition" host Jennifer Stayton, who will step away from the program in September after 22 years. Stayton is now leading a new KUT News reporting initiative focused on aging in Central Texas.

NPR's "Morning Edition" airs weekdays from 4-9am on KUT and is also available through the KUT News app and KUT.org.
