Kentucky Broadcasters Association President Chris Winkle will welcome students from five universities as the KBA WKU Radio Talent Institute begins Monday, July 22 on the Western Kentucky University campus. Taking on the opening session is Chris Lytle of Instant Sales Training and the author of "The Accidental Salesperson" and "The Accidental Sales Manager." He'll be followed by a group of radio pros from around the state and region.

Sales and management sessions will be led by NAB Executive VP Steve Newberry, CapCity Communications Kentucky and Seven Mountains Media Pennsylvania CEO Kristin Cantrell, Forever Communications Bowling Green President Christine Hillard, Forcht Broadcasting Somerset KY President/CEO Mike Tarter, Heritage Media Leitchfield KY President/CEO Mark Buckles, Commonwealth Communications Bowling Green COO Dale Thornhill and Commonwealth Communications Chief Revenue Officer Derron Steenbergen, who's also President of Swagger Institute.

Over the ten days they are joined by more broadcasters from iHeartMedia, SummitMedia and others, including a visit to the Cumulus studios in Nashville for a tour and to learn from sports broadcasters, and next Friday, Alpha Media's Ben Davis and Kelly K Show from WDJX/Louisville will be broadcasting live from the Institute with the students as the live studio audience.

The students will be certified as RAB Radio Marketing Professionals by the RAB. Bud Walters, President of the Cromwell Radio Group Nashville, will be doing the closing session.

"We can't stand on the sidelines wondering where the next generation of broadcasters will come from. We have to be proactive and intentional in our efforts to assist students on their journey into broadcasting, culminating with job placement," said Winkle.

This is the 7th annual KBA WKU Radio Talent Institute this summer along with the Kellar Radio Talent Institute at Appalachian State in North Carolina, the Beasley Radio Talent Institute at Emerson College in Boston, the GAB Radio Talent Institute at University of Georgia, TAB Radio Talent Institute at the University of Tennessee, Confer Radio Talent Institute at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Hubbard Radio Talent Institute at Central Washington University, and the MBA Radio Talent Institute at Northwest Missouri State University.
