RADIO ONLINE | Friday, January 24, 2020 |
The National Sports Media Association (NSMA) announced earlier this month that WTOP/Washington, DC, senior Sports Director and long-time Washington Wizards radio play-by-by broadcaster Dave Johnson has been named DC Sportscaster of the Year. 2020 marks his 25th year serving as the morning anchor on WTOP and the 2019-20 season marks Johnson's 23rd season as the voice of the team on the Wizards Radio Network. He's about to enter his 25th season of play-by-play for Major League Soccer's DC United and can be seen on television as an anchor on NBC 4 as well as NBC Sports Washington.
"Dave is one of the hardest working guys I have ever met. We are so thrilled and excited to see Dave honored for the amazing work he has done throughout his career," said WTOP Director of News and Programming Julia Ziegler. "Dave is an incredible journalist and amazing person to work alongside each day."
"To be recognized by my peers is beyond touching and a little bit overwhelming. It means so much, and I'm so appreciative," added Johnson. "It really becomes hard to put into words for somebody who's supposed to put words together."
