Sad to report that KXXM-FM (96.1 NOW)/San Antonio afternoon host Russell Rush has entered home-based hospice care. Rush announced in 2019 that he was battling a rare form of cancer, but stayed on the air as long as he could.
His wife Saralyn Ferrell posted on Facebook, "We are home on hospice care to spend the last few days we have together with family. We are heartbroken but blessed and currently don't need anything but love. Please know Russell is fully conscious and I'm doing my best to show him your posts and pictures when he isn't resting."
Rush, a market veteran, has been with iHeartMedia since 2005 and was named Program Director in April, 2017. Before that, he served as Assistant Program Director and hosted a weekly public affairs show that airs on all seven iHM stations in the market.
In 2008, Rush was named "Radio Personality of the Year" by the San Antonio Media Alliance. He also hosted "The Russell Rush Haunted Tour," which is a well-known web-based show where Rush and his co-stars hunted ghosts.
