Sad to report that KXXM-FM (96.1 NOW)/San Antonio afternoon host Russell Rush has died. He was 44. He entered home-based hospice care last week. Rush announced in 2019 that he was battling T-cell lymphoma. His wife Saralyn Ferrell said a memorial service will be announced soon.
Rush, a market veteran, has been with iHeartMedia since 2005 and was named Program Director in April, 2017. Before that, he served as Assistant Program Director and hosted a weekly public affairs show that airs on all seven iHM stations in the market.
In 2008, Rush was named "Radio Personality of the Year" by the San Antonio Media Alliance. He also hosted "The Russell Rush Haunted Tour," which is a well-known web-based show where Rush and his co-stars hunted ghosts.
