Veteran Talent Tim Hunter Hanging Up Radio Headphones

Longtime Seattle-area radio personality Tim Hunter is going to retire from broadcasting this summer. "It's a soft retirement," said Hunter, "as I'll continue my career salad. But my days of providing a daily wake-up service on the radio are numbered."

Hunter got involved with broadcasting while attending the University of Washington. After making his world debut on KCMU, the UW's radio station at the time, he graduated and headed east of the mountains to cut his professional radio teeth in Yakima.

After three years, he returned to the Seattle area as Larry Nelson's producer at KOMO AM-1000. Five years later, budget cuts forced him to find a new radio home which took him to KLSY, "Classy," where he remained for just shy of 20 years. After doing afternoons as a solo act, he was paired up with Bruce Murdock for the team of "Murdock & Hunter" and in time, they added the late Alice Porter to create the trio, "Murdock, Hunter & Alice."

When that radio partnership ended, Hunter enjoyed a brief stint doing weekends and fill-in for Seattle's "The Wolf," before committing to a decade of work in the advertising industry. But, as you know, the radio bug never goes away.

So, in 2018, when Everett's KRKO flipped from FOX sports to "Everett's Greatest Hits," Hunter took over the morning show where he has been ever since. "Unfortunately, I'm going to have to trim the daily morning show from my routine," said Hunter. "But I will forever be grateful to the staff for allowing me to play radio with them for the past five years."

The good news -- Hunter will continue writing for RADIO ONLINE as he has for the past 20 years, with his daily "Hunter's Humor," news stories and quizzes in R|O's "Daily Show Prep."

Hunter will continue on KRKO for the next month or two until a new morning show host can be found. Interested parties can reach out to the station at jobs@northsoundteam.com. You can catch Hunter's show while he's still there, weekdays from 6-9am PT streaming on krko.com.
