Veteran sports broadcaster Mark Scholten died on Monday, as reported by KPUG in Bellingham, WA through a somber Facebook announcement. He was 54. A recent KGMI article revealed that Scholten's untimely demise occurred due to natural causes within his apartment. Hailing from Bellingham, his hometown, Scholten had etched a lasting legacy as a sports anchor for both KPUG-AM and KGMI-FM over several decades. His journey in the field began in 1992, marked by his co-hosting role on the popular local sports talk show, "The Zone."

In the Facebook announcement, KPUG wrote, "KPUG is deeply saddened to convey the passing of our esteemed colleague, Mark Scholten, over the weekend. Mark was an emblematic figure in our community, recognized as the resonant voice amplifying the spirit of Whatcom County sports. His affiliation with KPUG and his unwavering commitment to the realm of radio will forever leave a void that cannot be filled."
