In a poignant announcement on social media, Julie Gates, the beloved co-host of the dynamic radio duo "Gene & Julie," shared heartbreaking news with their listeners and fans. Gene Gates, her husband and partner-in-crime on the airwaves, passed away on June 15. Gene and Julie Gates formed a charismatic morning team that graced the airwaves across major cities, from San Francisco to Dallas, Atlanta to Raleigh.

Their journey began in 2000 at the former Country KZLA-FM in Los Angeles, and they continued to captivate audiences through various radio stations, leaving an indelible mark on each locale. Their final radio venture saw them shine at WRAL-FM in Raleigh, where their efforts earned them the "Large Market Personality of the Year" Marconi Award from the NAB in 2015.

Julie shared that Gene's true passion was found behind the microphone. He thrived on bringing joy and laughter to listeners' mornings and was quick to lend a helping hand to those in need. Gene's compassion extended beyond the studio, as he rallied communities to support causes like animal shelters and disaster relief efforts. He seamlessly transitioned from entertaining to advocating for positive change.

Messages of condolence and remembrance flooded in from fellow radio personalities, sharing stories of their interactions with Gene. Paul Castronovo of WBGG "Big 105.9" in Miami reminisced about the good old days, emphasizing the importance of preserving cherished memories. Jeff Dauler, a former Atlanta morning show host and podcaster, sent love and support to Julie, highlighting Gene's kindness, optimism, and gratitude. Sheri Lynch, known for the syndicated Bob and Sheri program, offered prayers and wished for peace during this difficult time.
