Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio (MIW) has announced Brook Stephens, Music Director and Facilitator of On-Air Shenanigans for three Leighton Broadcasting Stations as Behind The Mic's first mentee. The program is a year-long experience exclusively for female personalities from any U.S. based music format that have been in an on-air position for at least 3-5 years in local or national radio programming and have demonstrated a desire to grow their on-air career.

The selected mentee receives personalized conversations and advice from a wide range of industry professionals including three of radio's top stars; co-host of The Bobby Bones Show and host of Women of iHeart Country Amy Brown, national radio personality and Gracie Award winner Elaina D. Smith of Nights with Elaina, as well as New York's Broadway and WLTW morning talent, Christine Nagy. In addition, the program affords the mentee the chance to attend Radio Show 2024 this April in Las Vegas, the premier event for the audio community.

Brook Stephens is the Music Director and afternoon drive facilitator of On-Air Shenanigans for three Leighton Broadcasting stations: KZPK-FM (Wild Country 99)/St. Cloud MN, KYCK-FM/Grand Forks ND and KJJK-FM (KJ Country 96.5)/Fergus Falls MN. She also produces a weekly top 20 countdown for Leighton Broadcasting.

A 26-year radio veteran, Stephens served three years on the CRS Agenda Committee and accepted her first Small Market Personality of the Year and second Small Market Music Director of the Year awards at the 2022 CRS/Country Aircheck Awards. Stephens is an ambassador for the INDY Foundation, The #LIVIN Foundation and a proud Tech Tiger Football Mom & Booster Club Member.

MIW Board President Ruth Presslaff said, "Response to the Behind the Mic opportunity was off the charts. Choosing just one winner was a very (very!) difficult decision. So all the more congratulations to Brook. Also, a huge and appreciative shout out to MIW Board Member Haley Jones, who poured so much time, dedication and expertise into creating and managing this program."

"I have always wanted to sit at a table of this caliber, and I'm actually here," added Stephens. "It doesn't seem real yet. I'm just so incredibly honored."
