Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel has announced that she will leave her post on January 20, 2025. Rosenworcel, who made history as the first woman confirmed to lead the FCC, reflected on her tenure in a statement emphasizing her commitment to expanding access to technology and broadband connectivity.

"Serving at the Federal Communications Commission has been the honor of a lifetime, especially my tenure as Chair," said Rosenworcel. She expressed gratitude to President Biden for appointing her to lead the agency during a transformative period when communications technology became central to everyday life.

Taking office during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rosenworcel highlighted key initiatives she championed. These include:

  • Establishing the largest broadband affordability program in U.S. history, which connected over 23 million households to high-speed internet.

  • Addressing the "homework gap" by providing over 17 million students with access to hotspots and devices for online learning.

  • Prioritizing national security and public safety in communications policy.

  • Launching the FCC's first-ever Space Bureau to support U.S. leadership in the evolving space industry.

"I am proud to have served at the FCC alongside some of the hardest working and dedicated public servants I have ever known," she said, crediting her colleagues for achieving significant milestones during her tenure.

Rosenworcel also expressed appreciation for her family, acknowledging their sacrifices during her public service. She said she looks forward to spending more time with them and her rescue dog after stepping down.
