A new investigative podcast, "We Came to the Forest," has been released by Wondery, exploring the contentious development of Atlanta's Cop City, a vast police training center poised to open soon. The podcast delves into the tragic shooting of environmental protester Manuel Esteban Paez Tera, known as Tortuguita, who was killed by Georgia law enforcement officers two years ago.

Hosted by Matthew Shaer, a seasoned writer and co-founder of Campside Media, the podcast series examines the prolonged conflict between activists living in the forest and the proponents of the police facility. The series, arriving on the second anniversary of Tortuguita's death, aims to shed light on the intense struggles and sacrifices made by those fighting against the construction of Cop City.

"We Came to the Forest" brings forward previously undisclosed details about the circumstances leading to the violent encounter between police and protesters that resulted in Tortuguita's death. With these new insights, the podcast offers a comprehensive look at the events that could shape the dynamics of police and protester interactions for the foreseeable future.

The series is a collaboration between prominent podcast studios Wondery, Campside Media, and Tenderfoot TV. It is currently available for binge-listening ad-free on Wondery , with the first two episodes also accessible on various podcast platforms. New episodes will continue to be released weekly.
