Matt Pinfield, a respected veteran in the radio and television industry, recently suffered a severe stroke on January 6, as disclosed in court documents filed by his daughter Jessica, reported by TMZ. The 63-year-old broadcaster from East Brunswick, NJ who began his career at Rutgers radio station WRSU, is currently a host at KCSN in Los Angeles and co-hosts "The Power Hour" on AXS TV.
Concerns about Pinfield's health were initially raised after KCSN announced his temporary leave of absence. "The SoCal Sound's legendary DJ Matt Pinfield will be stepping away for a while," the station stated. "We fully support Matt during this time and look forward to his vibrant presence and extensive rock knowledge returning to our airwaves soon."
Further support came from KLOS and its owner, Meruelo Media, expressing solidarity with Pinfield and his family-including his daughters Jessica and Maya, brother Glen, sister Colleen, mother Nancy, and girlfriend Kara. "Matt is a beloved member of our family, and we are all rooting for his speedy return to KLOS," Meruelo Media shared. "His fans nationwide, as well as artists across the music industry, are eager to see him back."
In response to his medical condition, Jessica Pinfield has sought a temporary conservatorship to manage her father's health and financial matters, citing his current inability to make competent decisions. She expressed concerns over potential financial vulnerabilities involving Pinfield's girlfriend.
On the day of the stroke, Matt Pinfield reflected on his life via Instagram, posting, "Starting another week with gratitude for a life surrounded by great people, life-changing music, and unforgettable experiences that I never take for granted."
Pinfield joined KCSN-FM (88.5 FM The SoCal Sound) in Los Angeles in March, 2024, as afternoon host. Pinfield, who gained national fame as a VJ on MTV, particularly through his work on the alternative music program "120 Minutes," was a significant figure in the radio and club DJ scenes since the early 1980s. His extensive career includes a tenure at WHTG, where he contributed significantly to its transition to alternative rock and earned numerous accolades before his pivotal move to MTV in 1995.
