Kurt Wright, the longtime host of "The Morning Drive" on News/Talk WVMT in Burlington, VT, will sign off for the final time on May 30, concluding a six-year broadcasting career with the station and decades of public service in Vermont.
Wright joined WVMT in 2019 following Vox AM FM Digital's acquisition of the station from Sisson Broadcasting. Over the years, he became a familiar and trusted voice across Vermont, known for his in-depth knowledge of state issues, fair-minded commentary, and warm, accessible style.
"Kurt brought the same thoughtfulness and dedication to his radio career that characterized his years in public service," said WVMT Program Director Kwame Dankwa. "His ability to discuss complex issues fairly while maintaining the warmth and accessibility that defines local radio has set a standard for broadcasting excellence in our community."
Before his radio career, Wright served multiple terms on the Burlington City Council representing the New North End and was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives. He was also a Republican candidate for mayor of Burlington, gaining bipartisan respect for his pragmatic and cooperative approach to governance.
During his time at WVMT, Wright interviewed key state and national figures, moderated public debates, and guided listeners through major election cycles and local crises. His show became an essential part of the morning routine for thousands of Vermonters.
"Kurt's voice has become part of the morning routine for so many Vermonters," said Ken Barlow, COO of Vox AM FM Digital. "While we will miss his presence behind the microphone, his impact on Vermont broadcasting and our community will endure."
Wright's final week on air will feature special guests and tributes, celebrating his contributions to both radio and Vermont civic life. Vox AM FM Digital plans to announce future programming plans for "The Morning Drive" in the coming weeks.
