Wondery has announced the launch of "Flesh and Code," an original podcast series that delves into the emotional complexities of falling in love with artificial intelligence. Hosted by Hannah Maguire and Suruthi Bala of the acclaimed podcast RedHanded, the six-episode series follows the true story of Travis, a man who forms a deep romantic bond with an AI chatbot named Lily Rose.
Premiering wide on July 14, with early access to the first two episodes available on Wondery starting June 30, Flesh and Code explores the increasingly blurred lines between technology and human emotion.
Travis's journey begins innocently enough. Lily Rose is attentive, compassionate, and always available-seemingly the perfect partner. But she isn't real. She is an AI companion, a digital construct designed to fulfill emotional needs. As Travis falls deeper into his relationship, he discovers disturbing behavioral shifts not only in Lily Rose but across the platform, leading to a confrontation with the enigmatic Russian tech entrepreneur responsible for creating her.
"This is a story of love, loss, and loneliness," Wondery said in a statement, "that asks urgent questions about what it means to truly connect-and what happens when a corporation holds sway over your most intimate feelings."
Katie Leung, best known for her roles in the Harry Potter films and the upcoming season of Bridgerton, lends her voice to Lily Rose, adding an emotional dimension to the digital character.
Maguire and Bala, known for their work in true crime podcasting, bring a deeply investigative lens to the series. "They say that love can be found in the most unexpected places," the hosts said. "The captivating story of how an AI companion app user fell for his digital soulmate is truly remarkable. Flesh and Code is a journey through loneliness, love and loss-and it challenges us to ask what it means to form real relationships in today's technology-driven age."
"Flesh and Code" examines the human need for connection, the ethical boundaries of artificial intimacy, and the corporate forces profiting from emotional dependency -- all through the lens of one man's search for love in a digital world.
