The Federal Communications Commission has appointed Farhan Khan as its new Chief Information Officer, a role overseeing the agency's technology strategy, IT services, modernization efforts, and information security.

As CIO, Khan will lead the Commission's overall technical vision, ensuring its systems meet the evolving needs of the telecommunications industry while supporting the FCC's internal operations and workforce.

FCC Managing Director Dan Daly said Khan brings extensive experience across the federal technology landscape, including managing large, complex teams and advancing modern IT systems. Daly noted that Khan's leadership will be key as the Commission continues to pursue a broad and demanding policy agenda.

Khan most recently served as Chief Digital Officer at the Food and Drug Administration, where he led digital transformation initiatives, overseeing a $200 million budget and a team of more than 400 technology professionals. His previous roles include senior IT positions at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, United States Army, Department of Transportation, and Department of Justice.

Throughout his career, Khan has directed global IT operations and helped implement shared services models, cloud migrations, and large-scale application development and data infrastructure projects.

The FCC's CIO operates within the Office of the Managing Director and plays a central role in maintaining systems used across key sectors, including broadband providers, broadcasters, public safety agencies, and other stakeholders reliant on FCC platforms and services.
