WMNF-FM (88.5) Tampa has appointed veteran broadcast and public media executive Alex Worthey as General Manager, effective November 2. His appointment follows a national search conducted by the Nathan B. Stubblefield Foundation Board of Directors. Worthey brings more than 20 years of experience in commercial radio and public broadcasting, including leadership roles in programming, audience development, digital content strategy and organizational management.

Most recently, Worthey served as Program Director of WNCU-FM (90.7) at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. His previous positions include Program Director of WUCF-FM in Orlando and oversight of digital content at WEDU PBS in Tampa.

He succeeds Ms. Zimmerman, who has led WMNF for the past five years, guiding the station through the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, political uncertainty and significant reductions in state and federal funding.

"Ms. Zimmerman has been WMNF's rock over the last five years, leading us through the end of COVID, political uncertainty, and massive state and federal funding losses," said Austin E. Craven, President of the Nathan B. Stubblefield Foundation Board of Directors.

"Mr. Worthey stands poised to build on that stability. I am confident that his infectious energy and attitude, along with fresh ideas and perspective, will catapult WMNF into the future, and I look forward to working with him for years to come," Craven added.

Worthey said he looks forward to returning to the Tampa Bay area and building on the community radio station's established programming and public service mission. "I'm honored to return to Tampa Bay and have the opportunity to lead WMNF," Worthey said. "WMNF has built an extraordinary legacy of connecting people through music, information and community service."

Worthey holds master's degrees in Organizational Leadership from Concordia University Chicago and Music and Live Entertainment from the University of Miami. His background also includes talent development, community engagement and mentoring emerging media professionals.

As General Manager, Worthey will report directly to the Nathan B. Stubblefield Foundation Board of Directors and oversee WMNF's daily operations, organizational strategy, financial sustainability and community engagement initiatives.
