Loup Ventures Releases U.S. Smart Speakers Estimates Update

Loup Ventures has updated its estimates for stand-alone smart speakers based on more historical sales figures. The firms says that this market remains in high growth mode. It estimates more than one-third of all U.S. households will have a smart speaker, a device that did not exist just five years ago, by the end of 2019. Alexa maintains a lead in market share, but Google continues to gain share.
The firm expects the U.S. speaker market to grow at 38% in 2019, compared to 41% in 2018. Its 2019 unit sales estimate is 72 million, up from 52 million in 2018. Loup says the current U.S. smart speaker market share breakdown has Amazon Alexa in the lead with 58%, Google Home 28%, Apple HomePod 4% and Other at 10%.
