Ari Shapiro, co-host of NPR's "All Things Considered" and "Consider This," will leave the programs at the end of September, concluding a decade in the host chair. His final broadcast is scheduled for September 26.

NPR Senior Vice President and Editor in Chief Edith Chapin shared the news in a staff note, calling Shapiro's 10-year tenure "a truly remarkable achievement." She highlighted his role in leading live coverage, reporting from abroad, and conducting hundreds of interviews that became staples of NPR's flagship afternoon program.

Shapiro began his career at NPR as an intern for legal correspondent Nina Totenberg before becoming a Justice Correspondent, White House Correspondent, and International Correspondent. He has earned multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards and was named Journalist of the Year by the Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists in 2023.

Beyond his newsroom work, Shapiro has written a best-selling memoir, performed as a vocalist at major venues, and hosted a season of Netflix's The Mole.

In a message to colleagues, Shapiro reflected on NPR's mission and his 25-year association with the network. "Our ability to evolve and change without sacrificing that unshakable mission of public service is NPR's greatest strength," he wrote. "This has been the second-longest relationship of my adult life (after my marriage), and I am both deeply grateful and exceptionally proud to have become the journalist - and the person - I am because of NPR."

NPR said it will announce plans for filling the All Things Considered host chair in the coming weeks.
