WTOP's Veteran Journalist Bob Madigan to Retire

WTOP-FM/Washington, DC, has announced that veteran journalist Bob Madigan will retire at the end of the year after more than 50 years in the broadcasting industry. Madigan has been a member of the WTOP family for 20 years, for most of that time as the "WTOP Man About Town." Prior to joining WTOP, he was an NBC News Correspondent in New York. During his nearly 12 years with NBC, he was a Financial Correspondent for the NBC Radio Networks, Morning News Anchor for "The Source" and talk host of Talknet.

WTOP VP/News and Programming Jim Farley said, "Bob and I have worked together for 27 years, 11 of those at NBC. As WTOP's Man About Town, Bob was a one-person 'good news' department covering everything from charity galas to scholarship awards and chili cook-offs for a good cause. He covered so many events, that in less than a year on the beat, he was emcee, announcer or celebrity judge at many of them. He became a one-man marketing machine for WTOP, getting our name out there in a positive way that was priceless."

Madigan has received many prestigious awards and recognitions over the years including an Edward R. Murrow Award, an Overseas Press Club Award, The Freedom Foundation Award and an Armstrong Award. Twice he was chosen to announce the Presidential Inaugural Parade along Pennsylvania Avenue, once for President George W. Bush and again for President Barack Obama.

Madigan will retire in Maine and plans to live there year-round.
