Red Zebra Broadcasting has announced that Washington, DC, sports radio talent Tony Kornheiser is leaving WTEM-AM (ESPN 980). Beginning in 1992 as part of WTEM's original lineup, "The Tony Kornheiser Show" has aired in the nation's capital for more than 20 years. The former Washington Post columnist and former "Monday Night Football" color analyst joined WTEM in 2009. Kornheiser's final show on ESPN 980 will air in late June. Red Zebra will announce plans for a new midday show shortly.
"Tony is a pillar in the Washington, DC, sports community and we would like to express our sincerest gratitude and thank him for his dedication," said Red Zebra Broadcasting Chairman Terry Bateman.
"I have loved every minute on the radio at WTEM," added Kornheiser. "But I felt it was time to pursue a new and appealing challenge. I will be launching a podcast this September. I am excited that this endeavor will allow me to continue to work with so many of the people who have been a part of my radio show for over the past 20 years. But I will miss all of my friends and colleagues at WTEM."
ESPN 980, the flagship station of the Washington Redskins Radio Network, will continue to provide live game broadcasts during the 2016 preseason and regular season.
