The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has revoked the broadcast license of Unidos Para Cristo, Inc., the licensee of KIJN-AM in Farwell, TX, due to the station's failure to pay over a decade's worth of regulatory fees.
The FCC's Media Bureau, along with the Office of Managing Director, issued a Revocation Order stating that the station had accrued $27,523.66 in unpaid fees from fiscal years 2013 through 2024. The decision also includes the dismissal of a pending license renewal application for the station.
According to FCC regulations, broadcasters are required to pay annual regulatory fees that contribute to the costs of FCC regulatory activities. Failure to comply with these financial obligations can lead to severe penalties, including the revocation of a station's license.
The FCC reported that despite multiple notifications and an order to show cause issued in December 2024, Unidos Para Cristo, Inc. failed to make any payments towards settling its debts or to present a valid reason for the fee waiver.
The revocation means that KIJN-AM must cease all broadcasting immediately, and the station's call sign will be deleted from the FCC's databases. The FCC underscored that this action does not relieve Unidos Para Cristo, Inc. of its obligation to settle any outstanding debts with the commission.
