In a round of company-wdie budget reductions, veteran programmer "Cadillac Jack" McCartney has departed his roles as Director of Programming for Beasley Media Group's Boston cluster and Corporate Vice President of Strategy & Analytics.
McCartney has led the Boston group -- and its predecessor Greater Media -- since January 2013, overseeing stations including WMJX-FM, WKLB-FM, WBOS-FM, WROR-FM, and formerly 96.9 FM. He was elevated to the corporate VP role in late 2020, taking on additional responsibilities for competitive strategy and research data analysis across the company.
Prior to joining Greater Media, McCartney spent nearly two decades with Clear Channel and its predecessors, holding key programming leadership roles. In Boston, he served as Operations Manager/Program Director for CHR WXKS-FM (Kiss 108) and Rhythmic CHR WJMN (Jam'n 94.5), and oversaw the entire Clear Channel Boston cluster for a decade. From 2007 to 2010, he also programmed Hip Hop WWPR-FM (Power 105.1) in New York, later rising to Vice President of Programming for Clear Channel New York, where he managed marquee stations including Z100, WLTW, WKTU, and WAXQ.
McCartney's career in Boston radio spans more than 20 years, during which he built a reputation as one of the market's most influential programmers.
