The Broadcasters Foundation of America (BFOA) has expanded its charitable assistance programs with the introduction of Hardship Grants designed to help radio and television professionals facing financial difficulties caused by extraordinary circumstances. The new grants provide assistance to broadcasters on unpaid or reduced-pay leave, as well as those experiencing unexpected expenses related to family care, housing emergencies, relocation or theft.
The initiative was unanimously approved by the Foundation's Board of Directors at its most recent meeting, and applications are now being accepted.
"This expands our ability to reach broadcasters who are struggling to meet their expenses because of extraordinary circumstances," said BFOA Chair Scott Herman. "I was delighted that the Board unanimously approved this initiative. We are up and running and ready to help more members of our broadcasting community when they need it most."
The Hardship Grants establish a third category of financial assistance offered by the Foundation, which has provided support to broadcasters experiencing financial distress for decades.
BFOA's existing programs include Monthly Grants for broadcasters dealing with prolonged illnesses and Emergency Grants for those affected by natural disasters, including hurricanes and floods.
"Our mission is to help broadcasters in need, and that commitment continues to guide everything we do," said BFOA President Tim McCarthy. "By expanding our grant programs, we can respond to a broader range of circumstances and provide critical assistance to more people in our industry when they need a helping hand."
The expanded assistance reflects the Foundation's ongoing efforts to provide financial relief to broadcasting professionals and their families during periods of unexpected hardship.
