ESPN Audio to Launch New Marty Smith Podcast
RADIO ONLINE | Thursday, March 15, 2018 |
ESPN's Marty Smith, known for his storytelling and interviews with sports figures and newsmakers on SportsCenter and other ESPN platforms, will expand his ESPN presence with a new weekly podcast from ESPN Audio. "Marty Smith's America... The Podcast" will launch Monday, March 19, with country music artist Jason Aldean as the first guest. Aldean's love of University of Georgia football is well-known and the Bulldogs-themed "man cave" in his home was the subject of an ESPN feature several years ago.
The April 2 edition of the podcast will include golf superstars Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as they prepare to play in that week's Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. A new podcast will post every Monday.
"Marty's unique voice and passion for storytelling and perfect for the one-on-one relationship between a podcast and the listener," said ESPN Audio Senior VP Traug Keller. "We're very happy to have him as part of our podcast lineup and look forward to hearing what he'll bring each week."
A reporter for SportsCenter, Smith covers college football as his main assignment but he has traveled the country and parts of the world in recent years to bring stories to sports fans. He's reported from Italy with the University of Michigan football team, traveled to Iceland to report on fans of the Icelandic soccer team, flown with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds at the Daytona 500, visited the White House with Clemson's national championship football team and reported from the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria.
In addition to reporting for SportsCenter and writing for ESPN.com, Smith also co-hosts the Saturday morning "Marty and McGee" program (ESPN Radio, 6am ET) with ESPN the Magazine's Ryan McGee. He also has the recurring interview program Marty Smith's America which returns March 22 at 7:30pm ET on ESPN with Woods and McIlroy as guests.
Smith joined ESPN in late 2006. From 2007-2014, the Virginia native was ESPN's lead NASCAR reporter for both SportsCenter and the former NASCAR Now program. He became a bureau reporter for SportsCenter after ESPN ended its live coverage of NASCAR events at the end of the 2014 season.
