Audacy Inc. Begins a Round of Nationwide Layoffs

Audacy, one of the largest radio groups with over 230 brands, is undergoing significant layoffs companywide. The action follows the recent departure of CEO David Field and CFO Rich Schmaeling and comes shortly after the company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Sources suggest that up to 300 employees may be affected.

The layoffs span various departments, with Audacy's COO, Susan Larkin, convening an emergency meeting earlier this week to inform company leaders of the changes. An Audacy spokesperson stated that the workforce reductions are part of efforts to streamline resources to remain competitive in the evolving media landscape and continue providing excellent service to listeners and advertisers.

Among those impacted is J.R. Cruz, former morning show host at Classic Hits 103.7 KEYN in Wichita, who cited health issues as the reason for his departure. Cruz expressed his sadness over leaving the station on Facebook, noting his plan to return to Houston for rehabilitation.

In Kansas City, the shake-up includes Johnny Dare and the "Ponch and Nikki Show," with Dare confirming his departure on social media. The layoffs also reached longtime Mix 104.1 Boston midday host Erin O'Malley, who shared her gratitude for her colleagues and listeners, highlighting her personal and professional milestones during her tenure.

The layoffs have touched various markets, including New York, where WINS Sports Director Marc Ernay and others were let go. The impact is also felt in digital spaces, with several content producers and strategists, including Spencer Ray and Tarrah Gibbons, announcing their departures.

This sweeping reduction affects personalities across the spectrum, from local hosts to national figures, marking a significant shift in Audacy's operational structure as it seeks a more sustainable future amid industry changes.
