Colorado Public Radio (CPR) has named Bazi Kanani as the new local host of its weekday broadcast of Morning Edition. Kanani, who joined CPR in 2024 as a host and reporter, will begin her new role April 27, airing weekdays from 4-9am.
Kanani said the program has long been part of her daily routine, adding that she values its role in keeping listeners informed about both global and local issues. She also co-hosts CPR's daily news podcast Colorado Today, where she has been on the air since joining the organization.
CPR News Executive Editor Kevin Dale said Kanani quickly established herself as an engaging and authoritative voice, citing her editorial judgment and enthusiasm for local storytelling as key strengths she brings to the role.
Kanani's journalism career spans local and international reporting. She has worked at stations across multiple U.S. markets and served as a reporter for ABC News, including assignments based in Nairobi, Kenya, and in the network's Washington, D.C. bureau. She also spent time living in central Mexico, where she studied Spanish language and culture with her family.
Her work has earned numerous honors, including a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award, a Heartland Emmy, and recognition from the National Association of Black Journalists, the Colorado Associated Press Broadcasters Association, and the Gracie Awards.
