FM News 101 KXL Portland, OR has entered into a news partnership with KOIN-6 News to expand local news, weather and information coverage across radio, television and digital platforms. The partnership, effective immediately, will allow the two newsrooms to share information and reporting resources while extending their coverage throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.

"Partnering with KOIN 6 News allows us to expand our commitment to delivering fast, accurate and essential news to the Pacific Northwest," said KXL Program Director Grant McHill. "By combining KXL's deep roots in local news radio with KOIN-6's trusted reporting, we are building a stronger, more dynamic news ecosystem for Portland and beyond."

The agreement comes as KXL approaches its 100th anniversary on December 13. KOIN-6 has served the Portland television market for more than 75 years.

Through the partnership, the stations will share breaking news, local reporting, weather information and community coverage, making content available to audiences across their respective broadcast and digital platforms.

"This partnership brings together two of Oregon and Washington's most trusted newsrooms to deliver coverage across radio, television and digital platforms," said KXL Vice President/Market Manager Mark Handwerger. "By combining FM News 101 KXL with KOIN-TV, we are expanding our reach to keep our community informed, connected and ahead of the story."

KOIN-6 Vice President and General Manager Tom Keeler said the partnership aligns the television station with an established radio news operation. KOIN-6 says its weather team has been rated Portland's most accurate for 11 consecutive years by an independent national weather research organization.

KOIN-6 News Director Rich Kurz added that the arrangement will allow both organizations to deliver news and weather to audiences "at home, in the car or on the go."
